The Orac Test and the Acai Berry

ORAC stands for "Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity".  The orac test measures the capabilities of antioxidants against free radicals by measuring how much a particular food inhibits the activity of free radicals.

Free radicals have been linked to chronic illnesses and the acai berry contains concentrated levels of anthocyanins. These anthocyanins are a powerful group of antioxidants that assist in neutralising the harmful effects of free radicals on your body.

Improved processing of the fresh fruit is making it possible to preserve more of the fruit's healthful attributes. The best way to preserve the acai berries high ORAC content is by freezing the fresh acai berry to preserve the fruit's nutrients.  Then at a very low heat remove all the moisture from the acai berry.  The result is a freeze-dried acai powder.  The orac test of this freeze-dried powder on a gram-for-gram basis has an ORAC score of 1,027 one of the highest of any fruit or vegetable tested to date.

The majority of physicians and health professionals believe there is a clear association between a diet high in fruit (high in antioxidants) and lowered risk of several chronic diseases.
